Main responsibilities:

  • Leveraging profound technical knowledge and expertise, process a deep understanding of the company's product or ingredients and can discuss, adapt, or even develop them to meet the specific needs of high potential clients. Acting as liaison between the company and its most important customers, working closely with them to understand their requirements and propose custom solutions.

Requirements:

New Business Development (NBD) is a distinct function within an organization that focuses on fostering and strengthening business-to-business (B2B) relationships. Unlike operational marketing, which focuses on the implementation and regional adaptation of marketing strategies, NBD places a strong emphasis on building connections, adapting products or ingredients, and identifying and generating new opportunities for growth.

The New Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a critical role in this process by leveraging their profound technical knowledge and expertise. They possess a deep understanding of the company's products or ingredients and can discuss, adapt, or even develop them to meet the specific needs of potential clients. The BDM acts as a liaison between the company and its most important customers (existing and potential business) , working closely with them to understand their requirements and propose custom solutions.

The BDM engages in various activities to foster B2B relationships. They often conduct one-on-one meetings with clients, showcasing the latest product launches and discussing how the offerings can meet their specific needs. Additionally, they may deliver scientific conferences or presentations in the industry, demonstrating their technical expertise and building credibility. This activity is also shared with the R&D.

In the business development process, the BDM collaborates closely with the R&D team. This partnership allows them to stay informed about the latest advancements, upcoming products, and technologies, enabling them to present innovative solutions to clients. The BDM acts as a bridge between R&D and customers, facilitating communication and ensuring that customer feedback is incorporated into future product development.

While product marketing and operational marketing typically precede the involvement of a BDM, their contribution is crucial to the success of the business. The BDM conducts beta testing with the most trusted customers, seeking their feedback and insights to refine the product further before its market launch. This ensures that the product meets customer expectations and helps in building strong customer relationships.

The BDM works in close collaboration with product marketers, operational marketers, salespersons, R&D and other stakeholders. They actively engage with the sales team responsible for the customer, providing them with the necessary technical/scientific support and market insights. This collaboration enables the BDM to align business strategies with market needs and drive sustainable growth.
